- Hello Christian,

- [>"replace next" mode, one can then use <arrow right> CTRL-G. Ah yes, please

-
- I have to say that I like having separate keys for these functions; it
- allows you to selectively replace without being forced to respond to
- ten million alert boxes. If you want to replace one string, skip a
- few, move the cursor around to do some editing, then replace the next
- one, it really is convenient. The same applies for "Find Previous";
- it allows you to move backward and forward very quickly. We do not
- have a shortage of keys, so having them separate (as both current
- standards do) is not really a problem.
-
- [><arrow left> hide block, put cursor at left end
- [><arrow right> hide block, put cursor at right end
-
- These are good, but only apply to word processors...

- [>In text oriented applications I prefer CTRL-I italic
-
- Control + I is already used as "Show Information" by most applications,
- though. How about activating text modes (bold, italics, underline,
- normal, superscript, subscript, outline) with Shift + Control + B, I, U,
- N, >, <, and O? (These are just off the top of my head; there are
- probably better keys.)
-
- [>CTRL L - Page layout
-
- Control + L would be good for "Load Options..." -- maybe.
-
- [>> Shift Del - Delete to end of line

- [>I also think this is too dangerous. A while ago, I used Shift-Space for a
- [>nonbreakable space, but some users complained they would hit it too often

-
- I agree. One of the things I have noticed about the standard is that
- the definitions of the modifiers have become somewhat muddled. They
- are no longer as clear-cut as they were. Perhaps it is time for a
- V7 keyboard shortcut proposal, featuring the changes that have been
- made and a clearer definition of the purpose behind the modifiers used?
-
- [>Alt Del - Delete to end of line
- [>Alt BS - Delete from start of line
-
- This is not used by anyone... The control key might be better.
-
- [>How about
- [>
- [>Alt CTRL Del - REALLY delete :-)
-
- It might have a few side-effects... :)
-

- [>> CTRL B - Set block > start
- [>> CTRL E - Set block end
- [>> Shift+CTRL B - Move to block start
- [>> Shift+CTRL E - Move to block end
- [>
- [>Because I want CTRL B / CTRL E used for other things, I can't agree with
- [>this. As one can use Shift-Click, I wouldn't want to waste two menu entries
- [>for this anyway. In papyrus I use Alt-B/Alt-E without menu entries.
-
- You know, nobody ever explained to me why we NEED to be able to mark a
- block using any other method than the one that is built-in to the
- machine. It is perfect; you can have course or fine control of the
- mouse, simulate both buttons, as well as simulate single or double
- clicks. It also has the added advantage that it will work with
- any type of application (not just a word processor or other cursor
- based text-handler) and it works with every program in existance. It
- would also save us the trouble of wasting two keys on it... :)
-
-
- [>I'd like to add the following Shortcuts that are from the NeXTStep Guide-
- [>lines or at least widely used on the NeXT:
- [>
- [>CTRL 0 - normal style (reset bold, italic, underline etc.)
- [>CTRL 1 - copy style
- [>CTRL 2 - paste style
- [>CTRL 3 - copy paragraph style
- [>CTRL 4 - paste paragraph style
-
- These seem much too specific, I think. They appear to be only useful
- for a word processor like, oh, maybe, PAPYRUS? :)
-
- [>Auto-scrolling while marking a block should vary in speed depending on how
- [>far the mouse pointer is outside the inner window border. A convenient fac-
- [>tor should be used, because scrolling line by line is often too slow.
-
- True; I have not implemented variable speed scrolling yet, but it would be
- nice to have in MasterBrowse. As it is now, the program will scroll a
- window by three lines if the mouse is moved out of the window. This is
- nice and fast, but makes control a little hard to get used to. Here is
- what I propose:
-
- 1) If the mouse is less than the height of one character outside the
- window, scroll by one line (for tight control).
-
- 2) If the mouse is more than the height of one character outside the
- window, scroll by three lines at a time (for speed).
